About our founder
Dr. Jagannath Mohanty, The founder of The Trust, was born on Monday, 17th June 1935, on the holy Odia festival of Basumata Snana (bathing of the earth- the day when the earth is cultivated and readied for next season of farming) in Jangalabori village in Puri. He was the sixth child of his parents Manik (mother) and Biswanath (father). His early life was fraughtwith many difficulties. He was very studious and wanted be educated but at that time the education infrastructure in rural areas was almost non-existent. His family could not afford to send him to bigger town to study. However it is rightly said when there is a will there is a way. Despite these odds he studied in the Nuahata Primary School till Class V. Right from this time, he had a passion and inclination for Odia literature. He passed 10th and 11th class from Nuahata High School. he was the only one to pass from his school. During this time his father passed away and his financial problems increased, casting a shadow on his future studies. Some of his brothers were in Puri by this time. Due to extreme financial problems, he went to Puri to find some job as well as continue hgher education. He started doing tuitions to earn money to fund his higher education. He passed I.A. from Puri college. In 1955 for the first time his poems were published. he studied and passed B.A. (economics hons) in 1957. During this time he suffered from a big personal tragedy when he lost his mother. in 1958-59 he completed B.Ed from Radhanath Training College in Cuttack. He was posted in Banapur as Education Circle Sub-inspector in 1959. In 1968-69 he completed M.Ed. In 1971 september 26 he went to London for higher training and research. He returned in 1972 and started working in State Education Institute. He again went to London in 1978 for 3 months for training. After returning he worked in State council of educational research and training (SCERT). He was involved in editing and publication of several eminent magazines like Odisha Education etc. In 1986 he was posted as professor in Sambalpur. in 1988 he was posted as director of Academic staff college of Utkal University. In 1992 he joined Sambalpur training institute and later became the director of Radhanath Training Institute in cuttack, from which he retired in 1995. However this retirement was only from government job. He remained as active as ever. The prolific writer he was he wrote more than 200 books for children literature. He dedicated himself to Children literature. He was of view that unless we write easy and simple literature for children and motivate them to read and write Odia literature, the future of the language is dark.
He was member of many Children Literature Associations and Academies. he was respected as a stalwart of Children's Literature throughout India. He was a leading member of many of many pan-indian Children Literature Associations. Many of his writings like tuma pari chota pila tiye, krushak bhai, etc. were included in textbooks for children. he has been felicilated for his work many time by Government of India, NCERT, OdishaSahitya Academy,Government of Odisha etc.
